It was none-other than the always polarizing Dallas Cowboys QB Tony Romo who, by taking matter into his own hands, favorably decided a game that seemed lost until the very last few seconds. Romo and his friends produced 436 yards of total offense, with 356 coming through the air and just 80 on the ground, and overcame three turnovers to grab a hard-fought 27-26 win. The Cowboys QB threw for three touchdowns and two picks, completing 36 of his 45 pass attempts, and he has nine touchdowns in his last three regular season match-ups. Playing in a run-by-committee type of offense, it was RB Joseph Randle who led his team on the ground with 65 yards. Jason Witten, one of the league's best pass-catching tight ends, secured 8 passes for 60 yards and two scores. But the Cowboys victory was definitely overshadowed by WR Dez Bryant foot injury, which will keep him out of the field for at least 6 weeks. The Cowboys defense allowed just 289 yards (8th best in the league in Week 1), with 190 of those coming through the air. LB Sean Lee, who returns to that defense following a serious knee injury, led his team in tackles with 9.
Philadelphia Eagles (0-1)
Despite a very slow start, the Philadelphia Eagles had every chance to come out of Atlanta with the win, but were unable to secure a one-point lead in the fourth quarter, and ended up losing that game by a score of 26-24. In his very first competitive game in almost two years, QB Sam Bradford completed 36 of 52 pass attempts for 336 yards, with one touchdown and two interceptions. Highly-rated RB DeMarco Murray was a non-factor against the Falcons, with only 9 carries for 11 yards, as in fact was the running game, with a mere 63 yards. Against Atlanta, the Eagles defense intercepted Matt Ryan two times, but that was insufficient to prevent the Falcons from coming out on top.
The Dallas Cowboys are 4-0 ATS in their last four games on the road and the Philadelphia Eagles are 1-4 ATS in their last five against NFC opponents; Dallas is also 5-1 ATS in their last 6 match-ups in Philadelphia. The Cowboys have won four of their last six encounters with the Eagles, but this is a much different Philadelphia side from previous years and Dallas won't have Dez Bryant on the field, which will probably force Dallas to rely more on the run game. At times, the Eagles looked confused and out of position against the Falcons, but they also showed some flashes of how powerful and effective they can be, when they are all on the same frequency.
