The Minnesota Vikings' main purpose for this season is to secure a playoff berth in the highly competitive NFC, but to do so, they'll need another outstanding season from RB Adrian Peterson, a player who almost put his name on the record books two years ago for yards in a single season, and missed the entire 2014 season due to suspension. The Vikings appear to have found in second year QB Teddy Bridgewater the franchise player they've been looking for and with the addition of Mike Wallace to an already impressive receiver unit, with Charles Johnson and Cordarrelle Patterson, this could be a very explosive group. The offensive line is one of the most experience in the NFL and they should not only give Bridgewater the protection he needs, but also create the necessary holes for Adrian Peterson to make plays. Defense was the Vikings' strongest asset in 2014, and they managed to keep the core of that group intact, adding highly-talented CB Trae Wayans with their first round pick, so this is a team that could surprise a lot of people this season, starting Monday night in San Francisco.

The Vikings had a good 2014 season, finishing with a 7-9 record, and this could be the year they get in the playoffs for the first time since 2012. Playing in front of their loyal and dedicated fans, on Monday Night Football, should give this 49ers team a much needed boost of confidence. The Vikings are an athletic and promising team, with an outstanding head coach, who knows what he wants and what is required to get there, and it is not by chance that they are viewed by many as a "dark horse" Super Bowl contender this year.

Considering the strong Monday Night Football trends, and the fact that the public is riding the Vikings pretty heavily, I'm backing the San Francisco 49ers plus the 3 points at home. Last year the public won less than 40% of the Monday Night Football contests. On paper the Vikings look great, while the 49ers look like a disaster. But this game is being played in San Francisco which can be a noisy stadium. The crowd should be a big help in keeping the home team in this one.
