The Los Angeles Clippers became Tinsel towns favored NBA entry this season as Kobe watched his Lakers dismantle from the sidelines.
With all the toils of Blake Griffin and Chris Paul all they got to show for it was a first round matchup which in other years could have been a Western Conference final.
Stephen Curry and the Golden State Warriors stole home court advantage in game one by defeating the Clippers 109-105 at the Staples Center.
The Clippers came back in resounding fashion in the 2nd contest downing the Warriors by 40 (138-98) behind Griffins career playoff high 35 points scored and zero foul performance.
Game 4 will also be played in the bay area beginning at 3:30ET on Sunday with L.A. up 2-1.
In the meantime, ice was the preferred playing surface back at Staples and the L.A. Kings were literally fighting for their lives after going 0-2 against the San Jose Sharks in northern California.
The Sharks wasted no time jumping on a less than Quick (Jonathan) in goal for the Kings in Game 1. They scored 3 times in the first period and 2 more in the second before L.A. succumbed 6-3.
In a turnaround of sorts the Kings took a 2-0 advantage to the locker room after period one in Game 2 only to watch as the Sharks scored 7 unanswered goals to take a 2-0 series lead back to SoCal.
At least the Kings were competitive in the third game played in front of their movie star studded fan base. However, it was all for naught when Patrick Marleau won it 4-3 for San Jose with a goal in overtime.
L.A. did show some spirit by prevailing 6-3 Thursday night, but remain on the brink of elimination heading into Game 5 back in San Jose on Saturday (10pm ET).
Two of the three Lone Star State NBA franchises are facing off in the league’s first round series.
Mark Cubans, Dallas Mavericks led by aging Dirk Nowitzki is going up against the Geritol laced Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobilli.
Duncan showed he still had something left in the tank by scoring 27 points in Game 1 to lead the Spurs to a 90-85 victory.
The Mavs showed surprising resiliency by capturing the second contest 113-92 aided by 24 Spur turnovers resulting in 33 points for Dallas.
It was not “home sweet home” or even “home on the range” for the other NBA Texas team as the Houston Rockets dropped both games in the Toyota Center and now head for Portland’s Moda Center trailing the Trailblazers 0-2 in the series.
LaMarcus Aldridge dropped 43 points on the Rockets in the Blazers 112-105 Game 2 win.
There is another pro sports team still competing in “Big D” by the name of the Stars. And they are competing quite well as a NHL wild card entry versus the Western Conference number 1 seed Anaheim Ducks.
The Stars have rebounded both figuratively and literally in their two home games to even the series at 2-2.
The Columbus Blue Jackets staying even with the Pittsburgh Penguins 2-2 and the Atlanta Hawks leading the favored Indiana Pacers 2-1 in their NBA best of seven.
