This is my analysis of what round 2 of the 2014 NBA Playoffs shall offer us.
The Brooklyn Nets are the only team that has swept a season series against the Miami Heat in a regular season, since LeBron James took his talents to South Beach. Nonetheless, this doesn’t mean that the Nets will be able to do the same during the playoffs. We can expect a very tough fight night in and night out between those two teams. The Heat are the favorites but the Nets stand good chances to eliminate the defending champs. After all, Paul Pierce and Kevin Garnett want to take revenge from LeBron, D-Wade and their company, who beat them multiple times when KG and Pierce were members of the Boston Celtics.
The Indiana Pacers needed seven games to roll past the Atlanta Hawks, but they finally took the ticket to Round 2. Now, the will face John Wall’s Washington Wizards. Whilst the Pacers are the obvious favorites in this game, the Wizards are now playing with great confidence, after their domination against the Chicago Bulls. The Pacers won the season series 2-1 but they will not have an easy job unfolding their game against Washington. We all saw what the Hawks did to Indiana and the Wizards are now considered a better team than Washington. So can John Wall dominate against the Pacers’ point guards and make the difference? The series begin on Monday night at Indiana.
The San Antonio Spurs finished the 2013-2014 season the best way they possibly could. They set a new franchise record for most wins in a row and they also managed to stay at the top of a very competitive Western Conference. Nevertheless, they did face some trouble against their first round opponent, the Dallas Mavericks. After struggling to secure the ticket to the Western Semis for six games, Gregg Popovich’s group showed its teeth in Game 7, securing an easy victory. The Spurs will now face the red hot Portland Trail Blazers, who are playing as well as they ever did during the last few seasons. Damian Lillard has emerged as the cold-blooded leader of Rip City and the Blazers managed to knock out a very dangerous and quality Houston Rockets team. This won’t be an easy matchup at all for San Antonio.
After an epic first round series between the Los Angeles Clippers and the Golden State Warriors, we should all now get ready for another clash of titans. The Oklahoma City Thunder, who eventually topped the Memphis Grizzlies after seven games, will face arguably the deepest and most lethal team in the Western Conference, the LA Clippers. This will be a fascinating series, with tons of stardom on the court. OKC seems to hold the slight advantage but things could turn the other way around quickly.
