The latest odds for the new season have only slightly dipped, according to Bovada Sports Linemakers. The Patriots are still one of the top teams to win it all this year. The Green Bay Packers are the overall favorite at 6/1 odds followed by Seattle and then the Colts. New England, Dallas Cowboys and Denver Broncos are all 12/1 odds.
The aging, two-time winning, Super Bowl champ is hoping to get the case thrown out of federal court when he challenges the ruling with the NFL Players Association backing him. If the “Deflategate” gets thrown out of court there is the chance of Brady starting the first game of the season against the Pittsburgh Steelers on September 10th. If the decision is not thrown out then Tom Brady will have to wait until week six of the season to take on the “scene of the crime” Baltimore Colts in an away game.
Head Coach Bill Belichick for the Patriots is enraged about the ruling in the “Deflategate” case. The always “man with few words” Belichick didn’t say much about his plans for the opening game but Jimmy Garappolo the backup quarterback is expected to be the starter.
The backup Quarterback Garappolo has some good statistics during his rookie season to keep the odds makers confident he can do the job until Brady returns. Garappolo performed good during his rookie season with a 101.1 passer rating and completed a high percentage of passes.
The Green Bay Packers are expected to be the team to beat this year and are the favorite to win the NFC behind the arm of Aaron Rodgers. The Packers lost a close overtime game in the NFC championship game last year to the Seattle Seahawks. The Packers have one of the best offenses in the NFL.
The Seattle Seahawks may not end up with the unstoppable team they had last year with their star quarterback’s contract in limbo. Russel Wilson is in his final year of his cheap rookie contract and the organization hasn’t reached a deal on his new one affecting the whole team outlook for the future. This condition dampens the prospects for the future of this contending team.
The Patriots may have to contend with the Indianapolis Colts if they want to return to the Super Bowl this year. The Colts are the favorites to win the AFC with their star quarterback Andrew Luck. Luck will have a new veteran receiver Andre Johnson to join TY Hilton and running back Frank Gore to make one of the best offenses in the NFL.
